Prayer

Do you know how much power is in prayer? In my opinion the unity of coming together to pray as a whole is lost. Sometimes I feel as if a lot of things don’t get handled because we don’t know how to come together in unity. I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought (1 Corinthians 1:10). I’ve seen people take life threatening situations as a joke, when in reality if we all came and prayed together, it would move mountains! I've seen world catastrophes happen and the first thing people do is make a meme on social media about it. I’ve even heard people make jokes about others in need. Granted, laughter is good for the soul, but only for the right reasons- Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving (Ephesians 5:4-7). These are the times where we should definitely be going to God in prayer, because that could have been any one of us in some of those life threatening situations.

Prayer is such a powerful tool. Prayer provides release, comfort and acknowledgement. Prayer is the way to communicate to God about your wants and needs-Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God (Philippians 4:6). A prayer life can be non-existent for some because a relationship with God is non-exist, or a lot of people only pray for big things or when they are going through. I talk to God like I’m talking on the phone, for He is truly my best friend! Prayer has gotten me through so many situations, good and bad.

Since I’ve been working in my field, I’ve come to realize that a lot of people just need to vent. They need a listening ear so they can get feelings, thoughts and emotions out of their mind. It's the same concept with prayer- when you have no one else to talk to, go to God. Even if you do have people to talk to, go to God first. Even when you don’t feel like praying, saying a simple line, “God, I thank you for today,” or “Lord, I need you right now,” still counts as prayer -And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests (Ephesians 6:18). Prayer isn’t meant to be hard to do. It doesn’t have to be some long, formal speech. Remember, God knows you better than you know yourself. Maybe you feel like your prayers never get answered, but that doesn’t mean to stop praying. Maybe you feel like God doesn’t hear you, if that's the case reevaluate your walk with Him.

There is also nothing wrong with asking others to pray for you or with you- Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective (James 5:16). Think about the power that is revealed when you come together and pray as a unit. Heaven hears those prayers and can move on your behalf!

Believe that there is power in your prayers because God has invested power in you! Don’t think that a prayer is too little or big for God to move- for with God all things are possible. In this walk it's important to incorporate a prayer life because how do you have a relationship without talking? God can speak to us in all types of ways, but if there is no effort, what will be the benefit?

There is no wrong or right way to pray, just speak from the heart. Maybe you do pray, but realize you need to pray more, or maybe even pray more specifically. Remember, God loves a willing heart. The more time you invest in God, the more He can increase your prayer life.

Mark 11:23-24 “Truly, I tell you, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea’, and does not doubt in their heart but believes that what they say will happen, it will be done for them. Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.”

1 Thessalonians 5:17 Pray without ceasing.

Matthew 18:20 For where two or three gather in my name, there I am with them.
